Diag: Not a fan.
As much as I love theatre and as much as I love boys, I will never love the two together. I saw too many uncomfortable guys on dates last night who looked like they didn't want to be there. Yeri and I frequently watch shows at the Pantages together, and I think that's the way it should always be. Besides, if you're on a date, you can't whisper things like "Raul is HHOTTT." which is exactly what Yeri actually shouted out during intermission (Raul = one of the main leads). Concerning the show itself, I thought it was good in the sense that it was entertaining - the pyrotechnics, the masquerade, the overplaying of timpani, the comic relief, the high notes that were hit. The theatrics and music were excellent but I didn't care for much else. I've been more touched and moved by musicals like HAIRSPRAY than this production. I guess I just couldn't follow the plot and I kept cringing everytime the characters would refer to the Phantom as the "Angel of Music". I understood and was sympathetic towards the love triangle. I got that much. It was very "Hunchback of Notre Dame" meets "Pattie Hearst". What I didn't like, which ruined the whole thing for me, was the theme of sensuality which was completely unnecessary and disturbing. I enjoy my operas and musicals to be unadulterated thank you very much (High School Musical is an exception).
Dinner was fun. We ate at Mozza Pizzeria (Melrose/Highland). I've been raving about this place without having even tried it myself. And it was, as expected, SO GOOD! The three pizzas we had:
Prosciutto di Parma, rucola, tomato & mozzarella $15
Pizza alla benno: speck, pineapple, jalapeno, mozzarella & tomato $16
Tomato, mozzarella, sausage, salami, bacon & guanciale $18
Who would've thunk, crushed pineapple, IN the sauce?
Who would've thunk, pizza for the price of the shirt off my back?
Only in LA chicos. I love LA.
